MCCLPHEI in the 21st Century:

MCCLPHEI as an organization aggressively pursues its mission. As a result, in 2005, MCCLPHEI will be described in the following manner:

MCCLPHEI consists of individual library directors who work aggressively toward the common goals of service and education for our users. Our leadership has built MCCLPHEI into the preeminent cooperative element in public higher education in the Commonwealth. We have achieved a history of strong and consistent funding.

Our collections, both conventional and electronic, are large, excellent, and responsive to the needs of our users. We provide seamless resource sharing through statewide electronic connectivity. Automated delivery of information has been integrated throughout the system, and the ability to plan for, respond to, and acquire new technology is in place.

MCCLPHEI's collective purchasing power has brought prices of products within the reach of each library. Successful negotiations for large-scale systems and for affordable pricing from vendors have taken place. We work with vendors to design systems which meet the needs of our users. Institutionally, MCCLPHEI members work with computer centers as partners to coordinate access to information. MCCLPHEI as a whole works with state agencies for computing and technology services. The directors of the MCCLPHEI libraries are a close-knit, collegial group who support and rely on each other to achieve excellence in all libraries.

We are cutting-edge professionals in the forefront of professional advancement. Our competitive salary schedules attract the finest professionals. Appropriate levels of staffing have been achieved through new positions and the reallocation of existing staff. We have collectively hired a strike force of technical experts to work at different campuses to resolve technical problems. We provide professional development for staff on an ongoing basis, and our employees say that their library is the best place they've ever worked.

We provide leadership through cooperation to achieve optimal access to information for all citizens of the Commonwealth. We do an excellent job of preparing our citizens to enter the global job market. We strive to ensure that our users have the skills to use all information resources, local or worldwide, available to them. Through MCCLPHEI libraries, our users have learned the skills to acquire and use information to improve their quality of life. Our students, faculty, and staff know that there is no finer place than their own library for information and assistance for their research.
